All reviewsReview of the bookmaker Nairabet from Legalbet
Established over a decade ago (2009), Nairabet has a special accolade as the first and oldest bookmaker to arrive on the betting scene in Nigeria. Meaning they pretty much set the standard for other bookies to follow suit from. It was founded by Nigerian politician and philanthropist, Akin Alabi and his popularity has further helped the Nairabet brand grow faster. NairaBET is licensed and regulated by the National Lottery Regulatory Commission. and they are also a member of the Association of Nigerian Bookmakers.
Considering they started traditionally (when the online scene wasn't in full throttle), NairaBet has a large number of local betting shops across the country although their online betting platform is now gaining a huge amount of patronizing thanks to innovations from their businessman owner in Akin Alabi.
In total, Nairabet is easily one of the biggest bookmakers in the African gambling community.
Odds - Good
We calculated the margin for Nairabet by analyzing the odds they offer. We further ranked them in one of the following three categories:
From 1% to 5%: Low
From 5.01% to 7%: Normal
From 7.01% to 10%: High
Football
We got our results by taking into account the odds for final result outcomes measured in line with the over / under for different football leagues. Getting the average results using this method, we were able to obtain the margins for each league and the overall betting margin for the bookmaker.
Nairabet has an overall average margin of 3.87% and also falls in the low category. In the first section with Spanish La Liga and Seria A, the margin is at 3.42%. With Premier League and Championship, in the second section, the margin is at 3.33%. Finally, taking the Netherlands Eredivisie, Polish Ekstraklasa and Austrian Bundesliga into account, the margin is at 4.85%.
Range of Sports and Markets - Good
While Nairabet might not be able to compete with other bookmakers in Nigeria with regards to a number of sports markets, they offer a detailed coverage on the ones they do have. Although, as earlier said, the focus on football with Nairabet can be a turnoff to any non-football lover. If you don't love football in any way, Nairabet definitely isn't the place for you.
As of now, they offer bets on a total of 18 sports, with the likes of basketball and tennis having been joined by less popular disciplines including handball, futsal, rugby, and darts.
Asides all of this, Nairabet also recently put casino games and virtual markets available for customers as both of those options are fast becoming popular among Nigerian bettors.
Because of their preference for football, we can see lots of options under this sports market. To put this into an explanation, one can see as many as 1000 daily football events while the likes of basketball and tennis can be way below 100. Such is the dominance of football on this platform.
Being one of the first in the country and seeing themselves as traditional bookmakers, they have a separate column for the NFL (Nigerian Professional League) where the lovers of the local league in the country have a wide spectrum of options available. Not just the 1 X 2 option, Nairabet covers the local league almost like they do the European leagues and they are the most detailed in this aspect.
A unique feature about Nairabet is the blog they have which gives in-depth tips, match previews and general football news in summary. Meaning as a football lover, you can have a lot to do on the Nairabet website asides placing your bets. This has helped them grow a massive amount of football lovers and engagements on social media through the sport.
Odds are displayed in either decimal, American or fractional and users have the option of changing this at will at the top of the page.
In-Play Betting - Average
Despite improving the number of markets in which they cover, NairaBet does not come out well with regards to their betting coverage. For sure, football fans will be pleased with the number of provided options, with customers able to bet on the match-winner, first goalscorer, total goals and even number of corners on major matches from across the world. However, fans of other sports don't have this luxury and unfortunately, it spreads to their live betting as well
While this bookie provides appealing odds on such markets also, it comes an as little surprise that there are lots of limitations on their live bet.
The "Live" icon can be seen on the top menu on the homepage and when it's clicked, a dedicated in-play page displays all current options in this area. The number of football markets is again numerous but a massive downside is that only volleyball and ice hockey are the other sports found for live betting as it stands. Something that comes as a big surprise considering their popularity and reputation in the country.
Another area Nairabet might consider improving on is the fact that they offer no live streaming services. Only the horse-racing fans are afforded this luxury and that is a big disadvantage too. But then, a plus to their horse racing service is that one is not required to deposit cash in his betting account and even those without a Nairabet account can partake too.
Lastly, seeing the popularity and demand in the country, Nairabet also started a range of virtual betting markets which are also gaining in popularity.
