The match of the 24th round of the Premier League between Liverpool and Newcastle United will take place on 31 January at Anfield Stadium. Liverpool vs Newcastle: prediction, betting odds and statistics.
Liverpool
Liverpool have enjoyed success in the Champions League and, despite a convincing midweek European win over Qarabag (6:0), the home side have encountered problems in the Premier League. In the previous round the home side lost away to Bournemouth (2:3) and extended their winless run in the competition to five matches (there were four draws earlier). Such long stretches without a victory in the Premier League have not occurred for the club since January 2021. As a result, Liverpool dropped out of the top four and fell to 6th place. It is also worth adding that the home side's matches are among the most high-scoring in the championship – an average of 2.9 goals are scored.
- Liverpool have failed to lose in 10 of their last 11 Premier League matches (4 wins and 6 draws).
- Both teams scored in 5 of Liverpool's last 7 Premier League meetings.
- The team did not concede in the first half in the previous five home league games.
Potential Liverpool Lineup (4-2-2-2)*
Alisson – Milos Kerkez, Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, Jeremie Frimpong – Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch – Dominik Szoboszlai, Florian Wirtz – Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo.
Defenders Jeremie Frimpong, Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley, and forward Alexander Isak are injured. The participation of defender Ibrahima Konaté in the match is currently in question (personal reasons).
Newcastle United
Newcastle United had gone four matches in the league without defeat, registering three wins and then drawing away at Wolverhampton Wanderers. In the previous round that run was ended when the club lost at home to Aston Villa (0:2). Interestingly, the visiting team failed to score in two consecutive matches in a single Premier League season for the first time since May last year. The club slipped to 9th place in the table but are only 5 points behind the Champions League places.
- The club have not lost in 9 of their last 12 Premier League matches (6 wins and 3 draws).
- However, away from home Newcastle United have recorded just 2 wins in their previous 14 Premier League away matches (5 draws and 7 defeats).
- The visiting team failed to score in the second 45 minutes in 9 of their last 12 away league games.
Potential Newcastle United Lineup (4-3-3)*
Nick Pope – Sven Botman, Kieran Trippier, Lewis Hall, Malik Tiaw – Lewis Miley, Joelinton, Sandro Tonali – Yoan Wissa, Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes.
Defenders Fabian Schär, Valentino Livramento and Emil Krafth, as well as midfielder Joelinton, will miss the match due to injuries. The participation of forward Jacob Murphy is in doubt.

Liverpool vs Newcastle United: Match Prediction
Both clubs recently completed the group stage in the Champions League, where they advanced to the knockout rounds without great difficulty. However, things are not going as smoothly for either side in their domestic competition. The home side have not won in five consecutive Premier League matches, and problems with finishing have begun to appear. Even at Anfield the home team have been unable to claim a convincing victory, and in their 10 previous home Premier League matches they have not scored more than two goals in a game. It is also worth noting the last two home matches against lower-table opponents Leeds United and Burnley, where Liverpool managed only a single goal between the two fixtures.
The visitors, meanwhile, have generally been pleasing with wins and goals at St James' Park. Away from home the squad look much weaker and also struggle to create chances. In their previous 14 away league matches the club have managed to score more than one goal on only two occasions. We expect that the upcoming contest will not be a spectacle and that there will be fewer than four goals.
Prediction: Under 3 goals
* For each team the starting lineup shown is the one from its previous match in this competition.
