Hollywood Oscars 2020: Bookmakers List the Favorites

With only a few weeks left until the 92nd Academy Awards, sports betting sites have updated their lines and again offer players the opportunity to guess the winners in each category and place their first wagers on them.  Here we have more information about the world’s main film awards in our Legalbet review.

The 2020 Oscars looked to be predictable even before Tarantino’s ninth film (“Once Upon A Time in Hollywood”) was released. There was so much anticipation and the outcomes seemed so obvious. However, now the sports betting sites are starting to understand, that not everything will be so obvious.

On one side, Di Caprio has already received his long-awaited golden statue, and is probably not waiting for the critics to repeat the situation. However, on the other side only the lazy have yet to appreciate the acting of Leo, which in his new film allowed him to again surprise fans.

Ceremony Host

There were as many as 19 main contenders for the honorary privilege of becoming the ceremony’s host. However, according to sports betting sites, there were three TV actresses who were the most likely to receive the honor: Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph.

Unfortunately, it was revealed during the run-up to the event, that like the Academy Awards last year, the Oscars 2020 will be held without a host. This information was first confirmed by one of the prize’s curators Carey Bourke. The same message together with the date of the event appeared on the film academy’s official account.

Best Actor

And here the opinions of sports betting sites go against the hordes of Leonardo DiCaprio fans. In first place the analysists place Joaquin Phoenix for his lead role in the film "The Joker", directed by Todd Phillips. The story of the Batman antagonist attracted fans of the series with a lack of a superhero theme and by moving the classic villain into the context of realism.

Right behind the Joker is the infamous Adam Driver, who at one time received a lot of criticism (and memes) for his as Kylo Ren in the "Star Wars" but was previously praised for the film “Silence”. This time, Driver will appear at the awards for his role in the film “Marriage Story”. In the film, together with his wife (Scarlett Johansson) he will go through an agonizing divorce and struggle for the custody of his child.

Leonardo DiCaprio is behind these two in the third spot in the list of favorites. He will be judged for his role as Rick Dalton in the film "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood", who, together with his understudy Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) attempts to find his place in the modern (by the standards of that era) film industry.

Best Actress

The leader among women was the actress Renee Zellweger, beloved for her openness, self-irony and unconditional talent in the films "Bridget Jones" and "Cold Mountain". This year, she could receive the statuette for her role in the film "Judy", in which Hollywood star Judy Garland’s last concerts in London are described.

There is also a high probability that the Oscar will return home with Adam Driver’s partner on the set of the film "Marriage Story". The "Avengers" star Scarlett Johansson is the second major contender for the award, according to the odds listed on sports betting sites.

The little-known actress Cynthia Erivo closes out the top three for her role in the film "Harriet", which was dedicated to a former slave and abolitionist, who devoted her life to battling slavery.

At the same time, Margot Robbie for her role in the film "Once Upon a Time" is in sixth place but with no odds listed.

Best Film and Best Director

It stands worth noting, that the odds for the Golden Globe Awards changed significantly in these two categories. In particular, the new leader of the category “Best Director” is Sam Mendes, who made the film “1917”.

At the same time, Tarantino looks to have completely lost the chance to be a contender, now sitting in third place for both this category as well as the prestigious “Best Picture” category.

The film from the legendary “gangster of the film industry” Martin Scorsese – "The Irishman", is sitting in fifth place in the Betbonanza's sportsbook. The director tells us the tale of Frank Sheeran, who was nicknamed the Irishman, and is credited with killing 25 gangsters including the Jimmy Hoffa.

The main contenders for the men’s category are Brad Pitt ("Once Upon A Time in Hollywood")

Joe Pesci ("The Irishman")

Tom Hanks ("A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood")

Among the women, Laura Dern sits at first ("Marriage Story")

Margot Robbie ("Bombshell")

Florence Pugh ("Little Women")
